Cytophage Technologies is a Winnipeg based biotech company focusing on the use of bacteriophage for the prevention and treatment of bacterial diseases. Bacteriophages are viruses that specifically target and kill bacterial cells. At Cytophage we are working to create tailor-made combinations of natural and genetically modified bacteriophages that target and destroy specific bacterial organisms found in poultry. Our bacteriophage products will reduce and complement the use of antibiotics for illness prevention in livestock, starting with poultry. We are currently working on developing products to prevent the most common bacterial infections in chickens- Salmonella and Clostridium perfringens. These products will replace antibiotics commonly used in chicken barns, resulting in antibiotic-free chickens- a regulatory imperative and commercial benefit in today’s marketplace.
