Impact of low protein diets on nitrogen metabolism in broilers: a meta-analysis approach

2021 CPRF,Nutrition
Nitrogen excretion is a major concern in the poultry industry given the implications on environment, animal performance, and welfare. Feed-grade amino acids availability has allowed the implementation of low crude-protein (LCP) strategies, which enables to decrease N excretion. The reduction of CP is achieved through different ways (modulation of ingredients and nutrients) without consensus strategy and with inconsistent results in maintaining growth performance. A meta-analytic approach was used to characterize the nutritional strategies in LCP diets. Likewise, the impact of LCP strategies on N balance, daily water consumption, litter quality, and plasma uric acid were quantify.
