Zoonotic pathogens in broiler chickens: working at the animal and human interface

2021 CPRF
Broiler chickens can carry Salmonella, Campylobacter and Clostridium perfringens, the three zoonotic bacterial pathogens causing the majority of foodborne disease outbreaks each year in Canada. My reasearch program focuses on the study of two of those pathogens: Salmonella and Clostridium perfringens. By describing both their epidemiology, including their reservoirs and routes of transmission, and their genetics, the research work conducted by my group, the Research Chair in Meat Safety, aims at giving the poultry industry additional tools to succeed in mitigating the challenges associated with these pathogens along the production chain.
